Towards the ratification of the ATIBT Convention

In the beginning of April 2012, the Board of Directors authorised the ATIBT Secretariat to take the necessary steps for the conclusion and ratification of the Convention, thus giving the ATIBT international status through the partner countries and future Member States. Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, Gabon and the Central African Republic (CAR) have reconfirmed their willingness to sign the Convention.

In Ivory Coast, the General Secretary of the SPIB (Association of timber producers and industrialists) has initiated talks with the government in order for this latter to endorse the convention. Concerning the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), we await the constitution of the new government. The Convention is expected to be signed during the French Development Agency’s (AFD) conference on tropical forests in Brazzaville, May 24-25, 2012.
