Energy wood in the REDD process

The pressure on Congo Basin forests is partly due to domestic slash-and-burn agriculture and small-scale harvesting for energy wood and timber production.   The pressure is constantly increasing. The Makala project’s objective is to ensure that the cities are sustainably supplied with energy wood while limiting the environmental impact. Project activities are carried out in DRC and in the Republic of the Congo.

The CIRAD led project involves four partners: CIFOR, the University of Gembloux (FUSAGx), the University of Kisangani (UniKis) and the Foundation Hans Seidel.
