Updated training courses with the purpose of developing new skills

In order to meet growing needs of members faced with new technical challenges, the ATIBT diversifies its training offer within the framework of a department dedicated to that purpose.
The ATIBT has put in great efforts during the past years in order to meet the members’ requests for training, cooperating closely with the various commissions and priorities set by these latter.
Targeted training courses in Europe and Africa
The ATIBT has in this respect proposed a number of targeted training courses intended for timber professionals from different backgrounds, both in Europe and in Africa.
Training courses in Forest management planning in Cameroon: In 2008, the ATIBT, in collaboration with three technical partners – ONFI, CIRAD and Nature+ – , trained several management planners from different Central African countries thanks to teaching modules elaborated by these partners and their great field experience from Central Africa.
Training courses for timber graders and experts in timber grading and identification: Since the integration of the so-called SATA (Tropical African Square-edged Sawn Timber) grading rules, which provide more transparency regarding the quality of commercialised batches, the ATIBT has carried out several training courses.
Technical assistance in forest certification: In September 2009 and in partnership with IFIA and the Forest Trust, the ATIBT initiated an in-company certification training cycle within the framework of a contract with the Centre for the development of enterprise (CDE).
The training cycle comprises 3 focus areas:
- consciousness raising of personnel on logging sites, organised by experts from the FORTEA consulting office,
- training in forest management planning, with special focus on HCVF.
- training courses in social requirements within certification.
