Welcome from the ATIBT President
Welcome to our website, whether you be a professional looking to inform yourself of our various projects and engagements, or if you are a simple visitor interested by the problematic of the world's tropical forests.
As you will have no doubt already discovered in our Associations opening presentation note, the ATIBT (who celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in October 2001) regroups a very diverse range of International competences covering the entire tropical timber industry from the forest to the consumer.
Reunited by the same passion for the tropical forest and the renewable resource wood, these diverse multi-national competences greatly enrich the strength of the ATIBT, and I sincerely believe, make our Association so original.
Through the works of its Commissions the ATIBT contributes towards helping the profession understand better the tropical forest and all its riches, the techniques of sustainable production, value added transformation and the commercialisation of tropical timber.
Both the ATIBT's General Secretariat and on occasion its members participate in the discussions, working groups and resolutions of National and International Institutions such as the FAO, ITTO, UNFF the World Bank, ATO, the EU and governments of producing and consuming countries.
The ATIBT contributes to the works of CITES, ISO and CEN, where we have a status of expert, advisor or permanent observer for everything that concerns the tropical forest and its timber resources.
Our Association also works in close constructive collaboration with many International and national NGO's such as IUCN, the WWF and WCS (to name but a few) all of whom are engaged in the same problematic, that is, the enhancing of the well being of the forests inhabitants and the protection of its riches.
