Olam Agri Congo Named “Biodiversity Champion” at the Reuters Global Sustainability Awards

Olam Agri’s timber business in the Republic of the Congo won the “Biodiversity Champion” award at the Reuters Global Sustainability Awards, held in London on October 21, 2026.
This category recognizes organizations thatachieve measurable progress in support of biodiversity

The award-winning entry showcases a model that combines conservation, scientific monitoring, community governance, and commercial operations.

The company has managed 2.1 million hectares of FSC - and PEFC - certified natural forest since 2006, across five Forest Management Units (FMUs) located within the Sangha Tri-National Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There, it implements low-impact logging, 30-year rotation cycles, protection of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, and tree-by-tree GPS traceability. The Pikounda Nord UFA is entirely dedicated to a REDD+ project.

This success is also built on a partnership that is rare in terms of its duration. For more than 25 years, PROGEPP has brought together the company, the NGOWCS, and the Ministry of Forestry around a shared conviction: a managed forest can remain a living forest.

This collaboration has enabled the development of a model for wildlife management and anti-poaching efforts that has become a benchmark in the Congo Basin.

ATIBT warmly congratulates the teams on this well-deserved recognition. This award demonstrates that responsible forest management, wildlife protection, and community well-being go hand inhand.
