The RESSAC programme is coming to an end after four years of applied research across the Congo Basin. A side event at CIB 2026 brings together its key findings — and examines what they mean for the future of tropical forest governance.
The side event organised by CIFOR-ICRAF on Wednesday 3 June, from 14:30 to 16:30 in Canopée 1, presents selected results from the RESSAC programme: four years of applied research on the ecology, governance and socioeconomic dimensions of tropical forest management in Central Africa, funded by the European Union. Twenty-six projects deployed across the COMIFAC area have produced technical and social innovations for the sustainable management of forest landscapes.
ATIBT contributes to this programme through the work of Franck Monthe on the economic and social impacts of CITES implementation on the industrial wood sector. The session covers carbon accounting in production forests, commercial species ecology, CITES regulation impacts on companies and communities, and a science-policy panel on the importance of private-research partnerships. Participants include government agencies, research institutions, forest concessionaires and international partners from Cameroon, Gabon, the DRC and the Republic of Congo.
