Our vision, our values

ATIBT contributes to the sustainable and responsible development of the tropical forestry sector, from the forest to the markets.

VIsions

ATIBT represents in particular forest operators and the industries, mainly based in Africa, suppliers of tropical wood products, and all other actors in the sector committed to responsible forest management. As such, it promotes responsibly harvested tropical timber on global markets.

ATIBT intends to contribute through its action to the protection and conservation of tropical forests for future generations, through the promotion of certified, sustainably managed forest concessions and networks of protected areas. ATIBT is in line with the evolution of market demand and interest in legal and/or certified tropical timber products.

The three main strategic axes of ATIBT are:

  • The sustainable management of tropical forests,
  • Further processing of wood towards more value added,
  • The improvement of conditions of access to global markets, promotion and development of the market for legal and/or certified tropical timber products.

The values defended by the ATIBT are :

  • Responsibility:
    Compliance with the legislative and regulatory framework in force in all producer or consumer countries concerned by products from tropical forests, including but not limited to legislation relating to sustainable forest management, the environment and labour law.
  • Transparency:
    ATIBT adopts a transparent and ethical behaviour, taking into account the expectations of its members and stakeholders in the tropical timber sector.
  • Integrity:
    ATIBT is an organization with integrity and condemns all corrupt practices.
  • Respect:
    ATIBT respects the different points of view and interests of stakeholders in the sector, which is the very basis of the Association's federative nature.
  • Cooperation:
    ATIBT cooperates with NGOs, academic institutions and public institutions that share the same values and objectives.

ATIBT applies zero tolerance towards any type of inappropriate behavior that could be qualified as harassment, exploitation and sexual abuse.
ATIBT is committed to providing a victim-centered response to any allegation of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse as well as facilitating the victim's access to specialized services and assistance.
