At the General Assembly of the European Timber Trade Federation ETTF on October 13, 2023 in Vienna, Nils Olaf Petersen was unanimously elected as the new Secretary General. He took up the position on January 1, 2024.

Nils Olaf Petersen has been working for the Gesamtverband Deutscher Holzhandel e.V. (GD Holz) for 10 years, initially for the former Monitoring Organization of GD Holz Service GmbH and one year later as Head of the Foreign Trade Department in GD Holz. He has also been in charge of the Quality Plywood Initiative (IQS) for several years.
Nils Olaf Petersen will take on the role of European Secretary General in addition to his previous duties. He succeeds Thomas Goebel, Managing Director of GD Holz, who was no longer available for the position of European Secretary General after four years.
ETTF has a wide variety of tasks in the new year. First and foremost is the request to the European Commission to be able to implement the new EUDR for European timber imports with as little additional effort as possible. In addition, ETTF is involved in a working group on LCAs (Life Cycle Analysis) of imported products. It also organizes the international conferences for softwood and hardwood in Taormina and Vienna.
