Possible New Dates for CITES COP18 outlined

11.06.2019

Following the postponement of the 18th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP18) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) due to violence in Colombo, Sri Lanka where the meeting was to be held this month, CITES Secretary-General Ivonne Higuero has notified stakeholders that her staff is working to determine alternative dates and locations.

Currently, it appears COP18 could be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, pending a security assessment, from September 1-13, 2019, or in Switzerland, which hosts the Secretariat, either in late August 2019 or early January 2020.
