ATIBT selected as an observer to the European Commission's Multi-Stakeholder Platform on Protecting and Restoring the World’s Forests

11.07.2025

We are pleased to announce that ATIBT has been officially selected to join the European Commission’s Multi-Stakeholder Platform on Protecting and Restoring the World’s Forests as an observer.

This recognition highlights our longstanding commitment to sustainable tropical forest management.

A strategic platform for forest governance

The platform, coordinated by the Directorate-General for Environment of the European Commission, brings together a wide range of stakeholders: EU Member State representatives, international organizations, NGOs, private sector actors, experts, and civil society organizations. It aims to strengthen coordination of European and international policies related to deforestation, sustainable forest management, forest ecosystem restoration, and sustainable value chains.

Active participation starting in July 2025

ATIBT has been invited to attend the platform’s upcoming meeting, scheduled for July 8, 2025, in a hybrid format (in Brussels or online). This 33rd meeting of the group marks a new opportunity for ATIBT to contribute more directly to discussions on EU policies, including the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), forest restoration strategies, and international cooperation efforts. Caroline Duhesme, our Director of Strategy and Innovation, will be the focal point for our association and will be present in Brussels.

An opportunity to bring the voice of the tropical forest sector

Our appointment to this expert group strengthens the presence of tropical timber sector stakeholders in key European decision-making arenas. It also offers a platform to highlight the efforts made by operators committed to sustainable forest management, promote certification initiatives, and advocate for a balanced approach that respects both environmental conservation and the socio-economic development of producing countries.

We sincerely thank the European Commission for this opportunity and look forward to contributing actively and constructively to the platform’s work.
