It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Simon RIETBERGEN.
Simon has made a significant contribution to the development of forestry in tropical regions, particularly in Africa and Latin America.
With over 34 years of experience, including 18 years with NGOs working in the field of environment and development, nine years at the World Bank and six years at the FAO, he has used his expertise to prepare and supervise investment projects in forests and REDD+, develop smallholder agriculture and fisheries, conserve biodiversity and arid areas, and adapt to and mitigate climate change (including for the Green Climate Fund). He also contributed to the development of environmental and development policies and facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogue.
Appreciated for his expertise, but also for his kindness and generosity, he always combined professional rigour with a deep sense of humanity.
His passing is an immense loss. His funeral will take place on Saturday 20 September. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
