Title of the presentation
Forest concessions in the Brazilian Amazon: past, present, and future
Speaker
Gustavo Bediaga, civil servant at IBAMA and doctoral student at the UPR Forêts et Sociétés.
Doctoral supervisors
Brazil introduced federal forest concessions in 2006, with the first one starting in 2010. Since then, about 1.3 million hectares have been allocated for sustainable forest management in four states. These concessions are seen as a promising model but still face important challenges. Their extensive monitoring system has generated valuable data for research on tropical forests. This presentation aims to present how these concessions work and how they are monitored.
This presentation, given in English, will provide in-depth insight into the functioning, progress, and challenges of forest concessions in Brazil, as well as the data generated by their monitoring, which is essential for research on tropical forests.
ATIBT members are warmly invited to participate and share the information within their networks.
