Understanding the characteristics of a timber species, preparing a contract, learning more about forest certification or finding traceability tools: the ATIBT website brings together a wide range of resources to support timber professionals. We invite our members and partners to explore them and share them with their teams.
Sharing knowledge is central to ATIBT’s mission. The Resources section includes technical publications, practical guides, reports, videos and digital tools. Organised by topic, these materials address the needs of producers, processors, importers, specifiers, researchers and institutional partners.
Reference publications for your commercial and technical activities
The “Contracts and practices for international trade in tropical timber” collection provides guidance to facilitate trade and clarify commercial practices. Its booklets cover timber names and designations, product terminology, sawn timber grading, moisture content and drying, measurement, Incoterms, marine insurance and trade documentation. They also address certification, regulations and trade in species listed under CITES.
For timber processors, the guide to gluing tropical timber presents solid wood glued products, associated technologies and different types of adhesives. It explores the opportunities that gluing offers for construction, joinery and interior fittings. The performance and functional requirements guide for structures using African tropical timber complements these resources, helping professionals select and use timber according to the requirements of their projects.
Understanding sustainable forest management, certification and the EUDR
The Tashmetum digital library brings together the Forest Certification Guide for Central Africa, its technical factsheets and supporting materials. It provides documentation for companies seeking to achieve and maintain certification.
Two complementary brochures also help explain these issues to your teams and partners: “Sustainable management of certified natural tropical forests” and the brochure on the EUDR and certified forests in the Congo Basin. They explain how certified forest concessions operate and how certification can contribute to due diligence. Letter templates and practical guidance are also available to support dialogue with suppliers.
A CITES FAQ to answer your practical questions
Which documents are required to export or import a CITES-listed species? How should re-exports or pre-Convention timber be handled? The ATIBT CITES FAQ answers the main questions raised by timber professionals. It covers permits, export quotas, non-detriment findings and procedures relating to trade in the species concerned. It is a useful resource for understanding the steps involved and preparing your trade transactions.
Digital tools to explore
The Digital Tools Portal brings together a selection of information platforms, databases and tools for mapping, sustainable forest management, certification, traceability and due diligence. This evolving resource helps you identify solutions relevant to your activities.
The website also provides access to My Tropical Timber, Timber Trade Portal and Fair&Precious, offering further information on tropical timber species, legal frameworks in producer countries and responsible forest management.
Discover ATIBT’s activities and shared knowledge
The activity reports, including the 2025 report, provide an overview of the association’s work. Event materials, presentations, videos and newsletter archives extend the discussions and make knowledge shared across the network available to a wider audience.
A website to explore and share
The ATIBT website is available in French and English, with many publications offered in both languages to facilitate sharing with your international partners.
Make the ATIBT website part of your working routine: explore the Resources section, download useful documents and share them across your networks. Draw on this knowledge every day to better understand, use and promote legal and certified tropical timber.
