On 12 June 2026, the European Parquet Federation (FEP), a member of ATIBT, held its 70th General Assembly and 50th Parquet Congress in Madrid. More than 90 members from across Europe gathered to take stock of the market, review ongoing regulatory issues, and define the sector's strategic priorities.
In 2025, the European parquet market showed signs of stabilisation after a difficult period. According to the statistics presented at the General Assembly, production in FEP member countries rose by 5.87 % to reach nearly 59 million m², a level that remains historically low. Consumption stayed almost flat at around 60.2 million m² (-0.98 %), reflecting a still fragile demand. This uneven recovery is explained in particular by lower direct imports from China, following the anti-dumping measures, as well as a modest improvement in construction and renovation activity.
The FEP also reviewed its engagement at European level, in a shifting regulatory context seeking to balance competitiveness, resilience and decarbonisation. Among the issues followed are the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), whose implementation has been postponed and is the subject of simplification efforts, as well as the introduction of definitive anti-dumping duties on multilayer wood flooring from China (21.3 % to 36.1 %), applicable for at least five years.
This work is of direct interest to ATIBT: according to the FEP's 2025 statistics, tropical species now account for 3.2 % of the wood species used in parquet manufacturing in Europe, a share that is slightly increasing. This figure illustrates how important it is for the tropical timber sector to maintain its presence in this construction and interior fit-out market, alongside species such as oak (83.1 %), which remains dominant.
On this occasion, ATIBT was represented by Sarah Laroussi, an expert in the wood construction sector, who presented the key trends and innovations in interior decoration and living space design in France for 2026.
Opening the proceedings, Lorenzo Onofri, FEP Chairman, recalled the significance of this anniversary edition: "We celebrate this remarkable history with pride. But we also gather with a clear awareness of our responsibility: the responsibility to preserve, develop, and pass on a strong and competitive industry to future generations."
The FEP's next General Assembly will take place on 10 and 11 June 2027 in Split, Croatia.
