Pointe-Noire, 30 June – 2 July: 1st edition of the Central African Cabinetmaking Grand Prix at Racewood 2025

27.06.2025

Eight young cabinetmakers expected in Pointe-Noire to compete in the Central African Grand Prix of Cabinetmaking.

As part of the Racewood 2025 organized by the Congo Industrial Platform in Pointe-Noire (PICP) will host the first edition of the Central African Cabinetmaking Grand Prix from 30 June to 2 July.

This competition will see the participation of eight young carpenters and cabinetmakers from Cameroon, Congo, Gabon and the DRC, all aged under 30 and identified by the ADEFAC project's partner organisations through national competitions, selections organised by professional associations or via the ADEFAC project's Thematic Working Groups.

Using FSC-certified wood supplied by Likouala Timber and Mokabi SA, the young people will have to produce a piece of work on site, based on plans and instructions provided at the opening of the competition on Monday 30 June in the morning. Mr Joseph Kamto Fodjo, professional trade expert, trainer and president of the jury, has designed the subject matter that will enable the candidates' mastery of numerous techniques to be assessed, as well as their spirit of mutual assistance. Three prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition: gold, silver and bronze; but also a ‘Country Prize’ for the pair of candidates who achieve the best results. The three judges will evaluate the anonymous pieces at the end of the day on 2 July. Coming from Libreville, Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville, all three are wood transformation experts and are committed to conducting the evaluations with honesty, impartiality, fairness and transparency. The closing ceremony and awards presentation will take place at the Elais Hotel on 2 July at 6.30 p.m. in the presence of Her Excellency Ms Matondo, Minister of Forest Economy of the Congo, representatives of the French Development Agency, which has been funding the ADEFAC project since 2020, representatives of the FSC, which is sponsoring this first edition of the Grand Prix, and representatives of RIFFEAC and ATIBT, co-project managers of the ADEFAC project.
