PAFC and Preferred by Nature: a workshop in Libreville on developments in forest certification

PAFC and Preferred by Nature, both ATIBT members, are organizing a workshop in Libreville on 14 October 2026 to explain how their certification standards are adapting to new requirements in international timber trade.

How are certification standards evolving to support companies in a changing regulatory and commercial environment? This joint workshop, organized by the PAFC/PEFC Congo Basin coordination team and Preferred by Nature, will provide insights into updates to their standards and their implications for stakeholders in the forest and timber sector.

The programme will cover:

  • The latest developments in the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and their implications for the timber sector;
  • Updates to the Preferred by Nature Certification standard;
  • The new PAFC Congo Basin standards, including group certification and alignment with EUDR requirements;
  • A study on convergence between the Preferred by Nature and PAFC certification standards;
  • An overview of the Asian market for African timber.

The workshop will also explore the specific features of the PAFC Congo Basin sustainable forest management standard. A question-and-answer session will provide an opportunity to exchange with the speakers, followed by a closing cocktail reception.
