To support its members in developing their activities in China, ATIBT is launching a strategic study on certified tropical timber to better understand buyers' expectations and the conditions for promoting certification.

As part of its activities within the Tropical Timber Trade Facility (TTT) project, funded by the German ministry of economic cooperation and development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), ATIBT is launching a call for tenders for a strategic study on the Chinese market for certified tropical timber.

China is currently the main market for timber exports from Central Africa. However, despite efforts in terms of certification and legality, companies that are certified (FSC or PAFC) or legally verified (OLB, PBN, TLV) are finding it difficult to promote these initiatives in this market.

This study aims to gain a better understanding of the perceptions of Chinese importers, sellers and consumers, the barriers and drivers for purchasing certified timber, and the regulatory and commercial framework in China. The results will be used to guide concrete and operational recommendations to strengthen the positioning of certified tropical timber and support ATIBT members in their commercial strategies.

Estimated duration: 30–35 days over 6 to 8 weeks

Maximum budget: EUR 20,000 including VAT

Submission deadline: 16 March 2026 at 4pm (French time zone)

The application must be made in English.
