One Planet Summit, Nairobi, Kenya, 14th march 2019 Biodiversity, Climate, African Population: Africa’s commitment.

ATIBT will closely follow up this summit! ATIBT promotes the development of a sustainable, ethical and legal tropical timber sector as a renewable and essential material for the socio-economic development of the producing countries.

Responding to the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kenya Mr. Kenyatta, the President of the French Republic Mr. Macron, the United Nations Secretary General Mr. Guterres and the President of the World Bank Group Mr. Kim, coalitions of the « One Planet Summit » will meet in Nairobi, Kenya on March 14th. Following the previous One Planet Summits (Paris, December 2017 and New York, September 2018), this third edition of the One Planet Summit will bring together committed African leaders, entrepreneurs, donors, international organizations and other stakeholders from around the world. all spheres of society and institutions. The aim is to accelerate and strengthen climate action in order to achieve meaningful results for African people, while protecting biodiversity.

Designed as a full day of high-level conversations and coalition mobilization for climate and environmental action in Africa, the event will begin just before the opening of the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly. United Nations for the Environment – UNEA-4, in a dedicated space on the United Nations Campus in Nairobi, March 14, from 9h to 17h.

High-level sessions, presentations by African entrepreneurs on innovative initiatives or partnerships with development banks and coalitions will be featured. The afternoon will be devoted to sectoral issues with in-depth sectoral sessions.

The ATIBT will try to participate: let’s remember that it makes every effort to:
– Increase the contribution of forests to the sustainable development of tropical forest countries,
– Support access to markets for tropical timber from legal exploitation,
– Improve the quality of life of stakeholders and local populations.
