FAO Photo Contest – International Day of Forests 2026

16.01.2026

To mark International Forest Day on March 21, 2026, the FAO is launching an international photo contest highlighting the essential role of forests in economic prosperity. This is an opportunity to showcase, through images, the many contributions forests make to economies and communities around the world.

As part of International Forest Day 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites professionals, photographers, and forest enthusiasts to participate in its international photo contest.

The theme for this edition – “Forests for Economic Prosperity” – highlights how forests and trees support local and national economies. As sources of jobs and income, suppliers of renewable materials, green energy, and forest products (including food), forests also play a key indirect role in supporting agricultural productivity, preserving watersheds, and strengthening resilience to climate change.

For the 2026 edition, seven winners will be selected worldwide:

· one winner for each of the six major regions of the world,

· and a special prize for the photo that best illustrates the role of forests in regulating water resources, in connection with World Water Day (March 22).

The winning photos, announced in March 2026, will receive high international visibility: they will be shared on FAO's social media channels and displayed in a photo exhibition at FAO headquarters in Rome.

Deadline for entries: February 15, 2026

How to enter

1. Take a photo illustrating the link between forests and economic activities.
