Faced with the climatic, economic, and social challenges weighing on forests, dialogue between science and public decision-makers is more essential than ever. The Teaming Up 4 Forests initiative, led by IUFRO, illustrates the key role of research in informing policy and supporting sustainable forestry sectors.
The Teaming Up 4 Forests initiative, developed by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), aims to strengthen links between scientific research, public decision-makers, and actors in the field in order to promote forest policies based on robust data and independent analysis.
Through the regular publication of Research Insights, Teaming Up 4 Forests provides decision-makers with clear and accessible summaries on key topics: sustainable forest management, resilience to climate shocks, the economic role of forestry sectors, and the contribution of forests to livelihoods and local development. The aim is to translate complex scientific findings into operational messages that can be used in the development and implementation of public policy.
This approach echoes the issues addressed by ATIBT, in particular the need to reconcile forest conservation, sustainable management, and economic development. In an international context marked by changing regulatory frameworks, particularly in Europe, this work highlights the importance of integrating the realities of producer countries and the structuring role of responsible forest-wood sectors.
By promoting dialogue between science, public policy, and economic actors, Teaming Up 4 Forests helps to move beyond simplistic approaches to deforestation and promote solutions based on knowledge, field experience, and international cooperation.
ATIBT invites its members and partners to discover these publications, which are useful resources for strategic thinking and strengthening the arguments in favor of a sustainable forest-wood sector that serves forests and the populations that depend on them.
