Timber Market Survey Themis 2025: mobilizing stakeholders across the certified tropical timber value chain

03.04.2026

In a context where supply chain transparency and the promotion of certified timber are more critical than ever, ATIBT is launching the Timber Market Survey Themis 2025 data collection campaign.

Open since February 20, 2026, the survey will run until June 30, 2026. It represents a key tool to better understand market dynamics and strengthen the visibility of certified tropical timber, particularly from the Congo Basin, while covering global trade flows.

As a reminder, the Thémis data collection portal, initiated by Probos, is a joint effort by wood trade associations and federations and organizations promoting sustainable forest management and responsible trade.

A strategic tool for the sector

The Timber Market Survey Themis aims to collect reliable and consolidated data on certified timber supply (FSC, PAFC/PEFC) in order to:

  • Measure volumes of certified timber placed on the market
  • Analyze demand trends and trade flows
  • Enhance transparency and credibility of certified supply chains
  • Support positioning of certified tropical timber in the context of regulations such as EUDR
  • Strengthen advocacy for sustainable forest management

These insights are essential to support market intelligence, policy dialogue, and the promotion of certified tropical timber internationally.

A collective effort from the private sector

The relevance and robustness of the results depend directly on the active participation of companies across the value chain — producers, processors, traders, and distributors.

Each contribution helps to:

  • Improve data representativeness
  • Increase visibility of certification efforts
  • Highlight companies’ commitments to sustainability

A key issue for producing regions

While global in scope, the survey is particularly important for the Congo Basin, where certification plays a crucial role in:

  • structuring the sector
  • securing access to international markets
  • demonstrating the contribution of forestry to sustainable development
