As part of a new research project examining the impacts of logging on Congo Basin forests and their regeneration, Chloé Dupuis, a postdoctoral researcher at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (ULiège, Belgium), is looking to connect with forestry sector stakeholders to gain a better understanding of available data and realities on the ground.
Supported by the FNRS, the project investigates the impacts of both industrial and artisanal logging by combining satellite data, drone surveys and field measurements with a multi-scale forest regeneration simulation model. The aim is to develop a Congo Basin-wide perspective while taking local specificities into account.
As the project gets underway, Chloé Dupuis is seeking contacts among companies and other forestry sector stakeholders operating in the Congo Basin. The objective is to identify existing data, gain a better understanding of the practices and realities faced by different stakeholders, and explore opportunities for new collaborations.
