Nuits des Forêts 2026: ATIBT works to raise public awareness of tropical forests

03.07.2026

From June 5 to 21, 2026, the sixth edition of the Nuits des Forêts festival will take place across France under the theme “Listening to Living Things.” At the René-Dumont Tropical Agronomy Garden in Paris, the Cité du Développement Durable and its partners have put together a packed program combining biodiversity, art, and education.

ATIBT played a full role in this event through two standout highlights.

June 11: Raising awareness among younger generations about forest treasures

For the first time, ATIBT organized an educational treasure hunt dedicated to the tropical forest, involving three middle-elementary school classes. Designed and led with the expertise and support of Forest & Life, (originally an educational program developed by our member Kinomé, now implemented by the association of the same name), this adventure guided the children through six stations in the Tropical Agronomy Garden to help them discover:

  • the world’s various tropical forests—the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia—and their exceptional biodiversity;
  • the products they provide: fruits, medicines, rubber, and timber;
  • the people who depend on them, from Indigenous communities to residents of nearby cities;
  • the threats they face, foremost among which is industrial agriculture;
  • conservation tools: forest management plans, protected areas, and FSC and PEFC certifications;
  • the role of the consumer: buying certified tropical wood gives the living forest an economic value that protects it.

This event was part of a larger highlight organized by Forest & Life: the conclusion of the “Pépiniéristes du Bois de Vincennes” program, a project led for several years by Kinomé in partnership with the City of Paris, which involves children in tree planting and forest restoration. This initiative has enabled young nursery workers to plant trees, discover the biodiversity of the Bois de Vincennes, and broaden their horizons to include the world’s forests.

June 20: ATIBT at “La Clinique des vivants”

The festival concluded on June 20 and 21 with a highlight event co-organized with COAL, a leading association for art and ecology. The day’s program included guided tours, botanical walks, yoga, writing workshops, and, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., “La Clinique des vivants,” a performative and participatory event.

ATIBT was represented by Élise Cambier, who brought her scientific perspective as part of a duo with an artist: a convergence of art and forestry expertise, in the very spirit of this highlight event conceived by COAL.

These two events illustrate ATIBT’s ongoing commitment to conveying the importance of sustainable tropical forest management to both young people and the general public.
